Thanks for the shout-out, Lauren! And yes, y’all… the zine I have been working on with my cohort and partner in crime, Stacy Konkiel, is being released TODAY in print and online. Stay tuned for an official press release, and come out to the zine release party Saturday!
RSVP on Facebook.
If you are anywhere close to New York City on Saturday night and you like riot grrrl or radical feminism or DIY punk or safer spaces or anything moderately related YOU NEED TO GO TO THIS SHOW AND BUY THIS ZINE.
I contributed lyrics/art to the zine and am a collaborator on other things with Kate Wadkins, one of the zine’s co-editors. I have no doubt that this is going to be impressive, to say the least.
About the zine:
The International Girl Gang Underground Zine is co-edited by Kate Wadkins and Stacy Konkiel. We are two white girls living on opposite coasts. We have a passion for DIY feminist cultural activism, but we grapple with the whiteness and exclusivity implicit in “punk rock”, “riot grrrl”, and “DIY feminism”. We believe in the importance of plural feminisms. We think that grassroots and DIY feminist ethics and modes of production are useful for combating oppressive mainstream culture, and we want to know about your experiences working within or outside of these frameworks. Have punk rock, riot grrrl, queer feminist subcultures, and/or DIY feminisms been helpful to you? Have they hurt you? Do you work with them or against them? Do you fit somewhere in between? What do your feminisms look like? The heart of this project is dialogue, and we want your voice to be present.
